Meine Kompetenzen:
Our activities in the area of Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology comprise the modeling and simulation of electrochemical cells, such as fuel-cells and electrochemical cells for hydrogen production. Prof. Schumacher has lead several projects to transfer knowledge on the modeling and construction of proton exchange membrane cells (PEFCs) to the industry. Contact: Prof. Schumacher (schm@zhaw.ch). More specifically: we have long-year experience in the pore-scale and continuum modeling of electrochemical cells. We are using voxel-based code (Monte Carlo, pore-network approach, and GeoDict modules) to extract upscaled properties of porous media. Parameterisations of effective transport properties are then used in continuum models made of coupled partial differential equations to simulate cell performance. We approach the cell scale, and the stack scale. This includes fluid mechanics (FEM and FVM) taking into account two-phase flow, electrochemical reactions, charge transport, heat transport, interface phenomena (e.g. compression-dependent thermal and electrical contact resistance), etc. We are also working on meso-scale models of porous electrodes. Deployment of our models either by open-source code or proprietary code that is licensed; this depends on the project.
